Amsterdam Top 10 Sights
What to See
If you come to Amsterdam for the weekend, you’ll immediately wish you could stay longer. There are so many things to do and sights to see, you’ll keep returning for many years to come.
There are many fabulous examples of Van Gogh’s work that you won’t want to miss in the extensive Van Gogh Museum. Amsterdam is also home to a museum in Rembrandt’s House, where he lived and worked for over 20 years, and for even more legendary art works, you could visit the world-famous Rijksmuseum.
If you want to fit in with the locals you could rent a bike and see the city that way. It is a pleasant way to visit some of the lovely open spaces, like Vondelpark which often stages open-air shows in the summer months.
Arguably though, the best way to see Amsterdam is from a boat. Choose from the many cruises that pass up and down the canals daily, with hop-on,
hop-off options, or longer cruises which include a candle-lit meal. All in all, this is an excellent way to view a beautiful city.
Alternatively, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, just over an hour outside the city is the Efteling theme park. With rollercoasters and magical rides, it is sure to satisfy even the most adventurous thrillseekers.
How to Get Here
You can catch one of the many flights into Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport daily, as it is very conveniently situated being only 20 minutes from the city. Alternatively, you can catch a ferry from Amsterdam to Ijmuiden or the Hook of Holland, taking 40 minutes or 80 minutes respectively to drive to Amsterdam.
Where To Stay
The best place to stay is in the centre of Amsterdam. Everywhere is within easy reach and if you are looking for somewhere comfortable and affordable, the Amsterdam Hostel Annemarie is ideal. It is very centrally situated and a stone’s throw from the beautiful Vondelpark and the Van Gogh Museum.
